This book paints a vivid portrait of the lighthouses on Lundy, their keepers and their effects on island life. The first lighthouse of 1820 was often shrouded in cloud and had to be replaced by two at lower level in 1897. In between a fog signal station was built to fire cannon as a warning. The book also covers the wrecks that the lighthouses failed to prevent and provides a background of island life. Available from Whittles Publishing or bookshops at £14.99. |
