If you were present at the 2015 and 2016 AGMs you may recall the discussion about providing a memorial bursary in the name of our former President, Sir Jack Hayward, who died in January last year. I'm pleased to report that we have now been able to make an award in Sir Jack's name to Luke Sutton for his continued research into the Lundy peregrine population.

We have learnt of the passing of Reg Tuffin on Wednesday 9th November at the age of 85.

“Little Reg” had worked on Lundy for 18 years as a general assistant and postmaster, having previously been a long term visitor since the 1950s. Reg finally hung up his post bag for the last time and retired to the mainland in January 2014.

The LFS will be represented at the funeral.

To support the restoration project there will be an open day in the church on Sunday 25th September including a short service with the new Vicar Revd Brenda Jacobs. The MS Oldenburg will make a special return sailing from Ilfracombe and the proceeds from ticket sales will go to the restoration fund.

Tickets are £25 for adults, £12.50 for children or £65 for a family and should be booked through the Shore Office by calling them on 01271 863636.

Over the next few days copies of the 2015 Annual Report will be dropping through your letterboxes. Once again it has a stunning, full-colour cover and I hope you will enjoy reading it.

Our thanks to its editor, Tim Davis, for its production and to Tim, Tim Jones and Alan & Sandra Rowland for envelope stuffing. We're also grateful to Lyndsey Green and the Bideford Shore Office who are looking after the franking before the reports go in the post.

You may be interested to know that Lundy will feature on the ITV programme 'Countrywise: Secret Wild Places' tonight at 8.00pm.

Hugh Boyd, who served as the second LFS Warden (1948-49), before going on to become an ornithologist of global renown, passed away at an Ottowa care home on 3 July after suffering from several years of debilitating ill health.

It is with regret that we pass on the news of the death of Peter Hywel Harman Jones who died on 11th November in Kingston General Hospital after a long illness, aged 95. He was the husband of Diana Keast’s sister Ruth, who passed away in 2006, and is survived by his daughter Marion who nursed him during this last illness.
