Research grants: guidelines for applications

  1. The objectives of the Lundy Field Society are:

    • to further the study of Lundy and in particular its history, archaeology and natural history
    • to undertake investigations in these fields
    • to further the conservation of wildlife and antiquities of the island.
  2. The Lundy Field Society offers small research grants (up to about £1,000) for which applications are invited from individuals or groups.

  3. Applications must be made on the grant application form which requires a description of the proposed research, length of research period, funding required, together with details of the applicant and references. We also need to know that you have obtained any required permits, permissions or consents required to undertake your proposed work - the Lundy Warden (see below) can advise. Requests for funding for salaries will not be considered. Where the applicant is a student at a university or college, the application should be accompanied by a letter of support from an appropriate supervisor.

  7. Grant applications may be submitted at any time during the year.

  8. Completed application forms will be considered by the Grants Committee before a decision is made.

  9. Successful applicants may be asked to present their research at the Annual Meeting held in early March (in the Exeter area) every year and/or submit a report for publication in the LFS Journal of all research carried out on the island. An acceptance of a grant from the LFS is an undertaking that the recipient will supply the report within 3 months of the project completion date.
